My quick read of this is that they are buying the plane for spare parts and the engines. It is pretty well known that Delta is doing the same thing with the MD-90s, So you can imagine how hard it is to get parts for a DC-8 now.

It seems that when a plane is early, or late, there is no gate. Only for those flights that come in on time - at least to my experience - that there is a gate. I am fully aware that gate space is at a premium and that planes need to get in and out on time for the next plane to come in.

The issue of keeping the A333 and, instead, getting rid of the 767s could have a lot to do with the level of service that each plane gives for its passengers. Needless to say on this forum, but American Airlines has not exactly kept up with the level of service on the 767's as they have on the A332,...
