Barcelona is capital of Catalonia which voted in an unauthorised referendum to secede from Spain a year or two ago. Maybe Catalans see LEVEL more as a Catalonian airline than a Spanish one. Being local I can ensure it is not the case. Also think that VY is not only Spain's biggest airline in number...

For some reason, (not just politics) Iberia under its own identity and brand never was able to build some decent long-haul network from BCN (see I don't even say hub), but eventually via LEVEL they found a way to deploy some flights from/to Barcelona which seems to work. For sure Norwegian prompted...
