Are the immigration officers based there on secondment? I guess they have to bid for it and it goes popular? Do they have housing and everything paid for? Yes, officers are based in country for 2-5 year assignments. They must apply and be "hired" for it. All are journeyman level (and supe...

Jump to postGood report. I had the same experience pretty much flying from Almaty to Astana. I liked Almaty way more than Astana, however the airport in Almaty is TERRIBLE!!!
Jump to postNo thanks. The white was terrible. Primary things that were good about the old site that suck about this one: 1. Ability to selectively quote posts without moving on to a new screen. This way you could grab snippets of many different posts without having to scroll the tiny little box and sifting th...
Jump to postthe purpose of the pre clearance is to push the effective US border as far away from the actual US border as possible. ....which completely explains why the likes of YYZ, YVR, YYC, YUL, BDA, NAS, STT, etc would be pre-clearance, right?. ;) Most of these agreements date back to the 20th century. Jump to postHow can this possibly be justified? There are what, 2-3 daily fights to the US from each airport? I realize this is purely anecdotal, but of the dozens and dozens of SV 77W flights I've seen departing IAD in just the past few years, I'm not sure I've ever seen a flight that appears to come near cap...

No, they don't offer as far as I know, but when I try and book a one way ticket in Y+ I can never get it to price out. It always jumps to their INTL site and doesn't allow it.
Jump to postAny chance we will see a MEX or PTY 5th freedom tag on or something like that? 10 hours on the ground is a lot of time and enough to make one of these turns.
Jump to postThanks for the nice report! Definitely a much better way to fly than in the back ;)The food looked good - the pork chops themselves looked great, shame about the messy plating. Jump to postI'm going YYZ-CDG next month in Y on the 787. Not really looking forward to it, but the food looks ok in your pictures. I flew YYZ-IST ( my trip report of IST-YYZ http://www.panamarayan.com/flight-revie ... l-toronto/) and enjoyed it in J. Next trip will be Y+ I think.

Great report and photos. It was an interesting read, especially as I was originally booked on Turkish this summer, but changed airlines as I couldn't justify spending as much as Turkish was charging for those seats. Decided to pay for Etihad business class instead. Turkish has a beautiful cabin, bu...

I didn't understand your comment about Ukraine International Airlines earlier in your post.... I flew them 2 years ago from JFK-KBP-DME (and) DME-KBP-JFK. Jump to postVery nice TR. The cabin of the Air Astana 767 looks better than anything we'd get on a U.S. carrier. Thank you for posting.
