Re: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II worth it? Plus grey fringing issue on high megapixel bodies...

Why not try the new Sigma 24-70 2.8 Art? It's far cheaper than the Canon and knowing Sigma it probably has better image quality. But to be honest, the difference between either of the two and the 24-105 is going to be marginal. My suggestion is to pick up a few primes just and go shoot. “The single ...

Cathay Pacific A340-300 HKG-JFK

Hi, I remember a long time ago I flew on a Cathay Pacific A340-300 from HKG to JFK. I'm curious as to how long the A343 was used on this route after replacing the A346 and before it itself was replaced by the 77W. HKG-JFK is just barely within the range of the A343 (13,000km distance, 13,500km range...

Re: 747-8l

A great aircraft choice for your first long-haul flights. The 747 is a joy to fly on but there aren't many left so try to clock as many flights on it as you can before it's out of the skies for good. As for Air China, their premium cabin seats aren't as spacious or luxurious as those of other carrie...

Re: Cathay Open New Lounge In Taipei

Never felt the SOLUS chair was of any comfort. No idea why CX talks about that so much as well? I don't think it was really designed for comfort as much as they are for privacy. I actually quite like them, as they're decently spacious and have a charging port as well as mini-desk for my laptop. The...

If I had to pick a favorite however, I definitely agree that the 747 looks best in BA colors, especially the old livery.

Re: New -800 -900 variant nomenclature

I know that the number 8 is popular in Asia (which is why the 747-8 is called what it is), but I can't imagine that this would be the primary reason for this shift in nomenclature. I believe that is essentially the primary reason. All the next-gen widebody aircraft have started out with '-8' or '-8...

Re: New -800 -900 variant nomenclature

That said, I've often wondered why so many airliner lineages started as '200' and not '100' ? I too have always had that thought, especially considering that the 747 started as -100. I wonder if they're launched as the -200 or if that's the name given to the original after the -300 variant is relea...

New -800 -900 variant nomenclature

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but I was just wondering why most of the new Boeing and Airbus aircraft start out with -800 or -900 variants instead of the traditional -200 or -300. A few examples would be the A330-800/900neo, 737-8/9 MAX, 787-8/9. Is there a particular reason why Boei...

I would say the major issue is that image is very backlit, as are most belly-shots. The sky is extremely bright while the aircraft itself is quite a fair bit darker than the background.

Avior Airlines Cockpit Paint - Anyone else doing this?

Hello all, I recently noticed that Venezuelan carrier Avior Airlines paints the back of the cockpit windows on its aircraft, as seen here http://cdn-www.airliners.net/photos/airliners/1/6/3/3967361.jpg?v=v44efa8dbaf6 I'm assuming that this is done to make their aircraft look more sleek and modern to...

Specifications-wise it's not that far ahead of the Mk3. The real test will be dynamic range and overall image quality (including ISO performance). We'll have to wait a few weeks for the camera to start shipping before we can get honest and non-sponsored reviews.

To be honest, I would suggest that you assemble your own PC instead of buying one of the pre-built systems that you listed. For the same price as a pre-built you'll be able to assemble a PC with a much more powerful CPU and graphics card, as often times pre-builts are very overpriced and use very ba...

Re: Cathay Pacific profits plunge 82% amid fierce competition

Anyways, I don't see CX regaining its advantage over the competition without making some adjustments to ticket prices. For example, 1000USD for an R/T Y class ticket from HKG to KIX and back is ridiculous given that the same route on NH costs less than 700. If you want to fly with an LCC fine that'...

Have to disagree with this - I have three stabilised lenses, but rarely use the feature. That said, I only generally shoot aircraft and landscapes, but even then there are other ways to help get sharper images when the light's low. IS can only steady the frame; it can't freeze any movement within t...

Thank you, finally somebody else on here is pointing out the facts rather than choosing which information to post as its suits their view. What you want to do then is try and get the best zoom you can afford with a low an F-stop number you can afford - additionally you could also add the Image Stabilization (IS) feature to stop shake at a lens of 300mm or greater. My advice would be to try and get a Canon 100-400mm L. Many of us (like...

Re: Lens to complement my Canon 70-200 f4

The 24-105mm might leave an awkward gap between 18mm and 24mm. I have the 24-70 f/4L on my Canon 70D and I find that there's a noticeable difference between 18mm and 24mm, as often times 24mm just isn't isn't nearly wide enough especially when I'm in a tight space. I would say go for the EF-S 18-135...

I'm not a veteran A.net photographer (not by far) nor a screener, but these are my two cents on the rejection reasons for Al's photo. - CCW Rotation A somewhat valid reason. If you look at the wings of the aircraft, they're just slightly slanted counter clockwise. A tiny bit of clockwise rotation so...

Determining Spotting Conditions From METAR/ATIS?

Before leaving the house to go spotting I always take a look outside my window to check that visibility is good and that the sky is blue, as it would be hard to get usable photos if the weather isn't right. Normally I'd leave for the airport if and only if conditions are satisfactory. But what happe...
