I don't know what the ratio of fleet to routes is for UA's 744's, but it probably makes the most sense to retire one with each route and the rest in between. So, this could be the end of the line for the 747 operating your flight!

Unless you're pushing a GE90 starting up, as long as you follow established safety procedures, you're likely fine as long as you excercise caution and use common sense. That said, I'm don't work on the ramp, so I'm sure others could give you a better idea.

A merger of EK and EY would've been possible if construction on the midfield project in AUH hadn't advanced so far. EY has invested good money (unlike their other investments) in ensuring AUH can compete with DOH and DWC in the future, and makes a merger that much more unlikely.
