I can't be the only one struggling to understand 3/4 of what is being said on this recording! Are they speaking English and Japanese? Not often you get the news that something the size of a 737 has crashed while in flight (as opposed to taxiing) and the crew walk away.

I wonder if it wasn't more of a forced landing than a crash (the latter assumes a more sudden impact with little to no control)

Does the ATR 72-500 typically have an older tape based flight recorder/FDR, or a more modern solid state memory unit? This aircraft was 15 years old so was constructed round about the time the transition from one to the other was happening.

The tail is a marked improvement on the old livery. I fear the titles up front may me a smidge too lean and might not be entirely legible from afar.
shame they didn't paint the engine cowlings in that night mid green they use for "airways". I reckon that would really set the design off.

In my opinion, this is very likely to be an Airbus order.

Boeing has nothing to offer in terms of a 757 replacement, the A321 in some variant is the only real choice.
As for the 767 replacement, it could go to the A330NEO if offered at an enticing enough price.

I've looked at length into the details of the crash. Imho it was a combination of poor pitot tube design by Airbus and poor airmanship by the pilots involved.
