I second that. Thousands of HUD hours, I don’t see it being a problem, if the crew had the intensity at a proper setting. You look through the HUD, NOT at the HUD display. CNN reporting that it was the pilot, the daughter of the owner, the grand daughter of the owner, and the nanny. Sad.

Certainly the most probable is decompression and incapacitation. The only somewhat good thing is that they likely just “fell asleep” and had no fear or pain. Rough still though.

While I don’t think it is 50/50 ATC/SW. To say no blame on SW is also not right. If they needed 30 second runup on the runway they should have made that known. I flew ORD-LAS on Sunday. We were filed at FL280 which was my first indication that something was up. Had ForeFlight going the whole time and the vast majority of the flight was GS 360 KTS. When we got closer to LAS we got up to 380 KTS. But that was it.

Also, I’d think the spoilers would be impacted by the hydraulic lines being drained due to the sheer of the landing gear.

I think upthread someone said likely 2 of the 3 hydraulic lines would almost certainly been useless immediately after the impact with the 3rd potentially also impacted.
