I just did DTW-AMS and that was about 7.5 hours. CVG-MLH is 500 miles longer which may push 9 hours on the way back. That’s a long time in a narrowbody but I’d like to see the flight happen too.

Other nearby airports have made SEA work on both AS and DL, including IND, BNA, RDU, etc, so I don't see why AS can't make it work from CVG. As far as passenger service, if Amazon is serious about this cargo hub, then I think it is inevitable AS jumps on CVG-SEA at some point, as DL is the only carrier on that route at the moment. They have a phenomenal operation that keeps unexpected non-operating costs to a minimum. Cancelling flights cost an airline a lot of money. They have labor peace and a workforce that genuinely seems to want to deliver a great product because they have a financial stake in the success of the company....

With P&G a large customer on the CVGBOS route and a valuable corporate account, I highly doubt DL will not pull out all the stops to defend it. Both CVG and BOS are mini hubs. Whoever tries it better be ready to fight.

There are enough runways serving Ohio. If it's burning a hole in your pocket, spend the $15B on rail links connecting the major metros and their airports. Growing a catchment area with improved rail will do more to convince an airline to add service than building a redundant airport.

With all these potential new freight flights in the coming years, it will be interesting to see how competitive CVG gets with its landing fees. The airport CEO is already quoted as saying this will have a direct impact on attracting new passenger services by being able to lower landing fees overall.
