I think this is going to be a mechanical malfunction, with pilots that could not react quickly enough to correct the situation. Some speculation of auto throttle issues on this particular craft, asymmetric thrust. Obviously just speculation at this point. Condolences to all.

It will fly again. And it will be very safe after all the scrutiny. This is a good thing for design and certification of future aircraft as well. There will be no shortcuts and quick certifications. Costs more, it's tedious, but I think it's best people get to fly on the safest designs possible.

Not a pilot, but I certainly remember the smoking and non smoking sections. Also reminds me of restaurants when you walked in, the hostess would ask smoking or non smoking?

Seems crazy to think we ever thought smoking in a sealed tube 35,000 ft in the air was a good idea.

I didn't even think it was possible to take off without flaps. Pretty much always thought they would get a takeoff config fault. For sure, the cause of Lionair and this new incident need to be investigated in an expedited manner.
