Re: Turbofan Cool Down Time

My reading of the GE9X is that the low-power rotation system *prevents* the need for dry motoring or extended dry motoring after a normal turn. As long as the system remains powered with a loss not exceeding 5 minutes, then there is no concern about bow, so no need to dry motor. You're right. The s...

14 hours?!? Woow. So... no 777X ever will stand around with non- moving fans? Also I have actual questions: where does the electricity come from? How hot is an engine core 8hrs after shutdown. Or 10? I'm amazed by these 14hrs... Only N2 is turned, so you won't see the fan spin. Also the turning is ...

Re: United Overstaffed due to Boeing Delays; To Offer Voluntary Program

This probably means the delays are much bigger/longer than most of us are thinking. If it was only 12-18 months, I strongly doubt they would implement such a program. I suspect we’re looking at a major reduction in velocity of new deliveries.

The skid marks shared by the pax in the KHOU video suggests they started skidding when they went to slow for the turn, and simply ran out of space. Honestly, what’s the point of getting that aircraft airworthy and then fly it to the US for what? They should have scrapped it in Argentina and let it go. This has become ridiculous. Either the bolted-securement door design meets certification criteria or it doesn't. And if it doesn’t, then what changed between the 39M and 9ER? Otherwise, 9ER should also be grounded. If the concern is such that you can’t justify grounding the 9ER fleet, then you shoul...

Add: FWIW: it seems the Trent 1000/7000 is heavily incentivized financially to use reduced climb thrust, hence the reported slower high altitude climbs. I’ve noticed SQ also does the same with their 78X. I suspect it’s to improve the TBO/TOW while the durability issues are addressed.

Regarding A339’s field performance: the Trent 7000 is only good for 72,900lbs of take off thrust and about 65,000 maximum continuous, whereas a 789 with 1000’s is usually 76-78000lbs take off and 69,000 MCT.
