An airline can reserve a block of N numbers with the FAA. NW had probably reserved these registrations years in advance. They probably figured if we paid for them why not use them?

Out of curiosity did the 900 you were on and the Max9 both have the new style PSU air vents or did the 900 have the old style?

I’ve found I get far more air flow from the old vents than the new ones but that’s just anecdotal observation over a few dozen recent 737 flights.

Someone I know who flew CR9s at Mesa about 3 years ago spoke of these birds being full of deferrals and write ups. Also stated they were frequently unreliable from a timeless standpoint. Guessing nobody else will touch them.

I’ve never thought of this before but it’s a neat thought.

Would be quite interesting to get into a retro looking machine like the 727 and find a 737MAX interior inside. I suppose one of those things that’s technically not too challenging but we’ll never see.
