I don't think the general public gets this solution. Damn near every Alaska flight I take these days I hear someone commenting about how Delta "has screens in the seats." That may well not matter, because the general public books only on price and occasionally schedule, and not amenities....

Why? Lots of airframes (and engines), as pointed out above, have had issues. It isn't isolated to the 787.

Airbus already has HA deposits as well as a contract price for the frames, how exactly are they going to put on pressure by talking to Boeing? By cancelling? New DOT rules require airlines to include regional airlines in their on-time and cancelled flight reporting if those regional airlines account for 0.5% or more of total revenue.
