That was also when fuel was $3.50/gallon. That math changes with fuel price. Cut those savings in half and it is still incredibly significant. UA is on record, a quick google yields around $1300/hr in savings 739ER vs 752. That is over $10,000 per plane per day. That was also when fuel was $3.50/gallon. That math changes with fuel price. I question the comment about the 739 being more fuel efficient. If so, it is a small marginal difference. The PW powered version of the 757 is very efficient, it hard to believe how efficient actually given how long it has been in service. Engine reliability......haha, now theres a different story....

If Airbus was competitions against more than Boeing, maybe. There is no need for B or A to invest in a plane for every size segment, airlines make tradeoffs. Airbus isn’t going to lose any customers over not having the A320.5, just cut into profits.
