It depends on how many slots are available. NH already does ORD-HND so would UA add this? I think DL will look for ATL and DTW, AA for DFW. I think UA would want EWR-HND and LAX-HND. Fares do seem to have dropped significantly. This summer round trips from MSP-TYO were around $1300 and that’s via YYZ. Now nonstops are just over $900.

At one point it was daily, but over the years it’s been trimmed back significantly. I doubt if this has anything to do with the Brazilian population of Detroit. And I’m not sure if São Paulo has much of an auto industry. Maybe not final assembly, but they probably manufacture vehicle parts.

At first it sounds outside the SY business model, but it should do well with allowing connections at MSP for sun destinations. I can see them doing this from other upper Midwest cities (FSD, GRB, maybe YWG).

I don’t know how it’s going to do. It’s a long flight stuck in seats with that pitch. If the fares too high they’ll not attract pax and if it’s too low they’ll lose their shirt.

But no Detroit speaks volumes really. Please stop. DL and KL coordinate schedules, so if KL were to add DTW, it’d be in lieu of a DL flight. And have you flown KL lately? The service is absolutely inferior to DL. And flights to SLC and MSP are on cramped 787, whereas ATL gets even more cramped 777....
