I would say Aeroflot. Everyone was telling me how bad they were before my flight but all that I heard ended up not being true at all. It was the only flight that I received TWO hot meals ,slippers and a sleeping mask on a TATL flight. The crew were also quite professional.

8 hours would be plenty time to go to Germany, France or the likes. For example Berlin would be about 1 hr 45 minute flight from Edinburgh so something like that could pop up.
