Re: A 9 passenger electrical plane available

First Model S had the range of over 300km while Renault Zoe had a range of less than 150km and performance gets worse from there. Today , Model S gets at least 600km range while Zoe gets little over 300km. Model S is more than twice the car of Zoe and Leaf. Model S is a viable future model while Zo...

Re: A 9 passenger electrical plane available

Electric evolution started with a Tesla Model S.. Here is a car that could equal and exceed the gas cars in many aspects. Zoe and Leaf are just compromised equivalents of gas cars that turned most people off of adopting electric and it can only be done with a larger frame . It may not be efficient ...

Re: A 9 passenger electrical plane available

I wonder if in 10 years a better battery becomes available, would it be possible to swap it out or is that technically impossible ? It seems that designing this aircraft to accommodate more capable battery packs in the future would be the smart move. Here are the confirmed specs : If there would be...

I found it on a random website. It seems authentic but still anonymous and certainly something that I would feel if I was working in a company that turned political which inevitably goes oppressive and authoritarian. https://beckernews.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/PAGE1DELTA.jpg https://beckernews...

Re: How is EY flying 6x weekly to YYZ but EK can only fly 5x weekly to YYZ?

Reasons why I'm not a big fan of EY/EK and the UAE in general; 1) EY/EK are cherry pickers. They use their geographical bonus, cheap hydrocarbons (low fuel prices in Dubai), exploitive labour practices (how many of their low level workers will ever get UAE citizenship?), UAE fiscal/tax benefits (lo...

I was told that A380 was inefficient so what is the problem with competing with it? Look up UAE and look at Canada on the map and tell me which one is a big bully. Do you think Cuba and Mexico and Canada should have reciprocity as well with flights? If they can't compete with a small country on the...

Re: What is the minimum battery power density needed for a 2000nm range?

There will be no such change for airplanes. As of right now, total propulsion efficiency for modern airplanes is approaching 40%. Even if electric offers lower losses in the cycle, propulsive losses would still be there. So 2x improvement is already an optimistic value. Are you talking only about t...

Hello Vladex, Challenge accepted. :-) I take the following starting point: conventional airplanes burn approximately 1/30th of their current weight per hour - as an example an A320 would burn about 2.5t per hour at an assumed weight of 75t. Assuming an energy density of 12kWh per kg of kerosene, th...

Re: What is the minimum battery power density needed for a 2000nm range?

One of the big issues is that batteries don't lose weight as they discharge. On the other hand as you burn fuel that weight disappears. This has a massive effect on range. Also, an A350-1000 might carry a maximum of 124 tonnes of fuel, but not even the longest flights use that much. If nothing else...

What is the minimum battery power density needed for a 2000nm range?

I think 2000 NM is the magical goldilock number for an entry of a widebody electric aircraft which would be very desirable for most airlines. Right now battery density is about 240w/kg on a cell level and 160w/kg on a battery pack level. There is this article that shows efficiency of Electric, Oil a...

All of that was their stated goal from the beginning of the ill fated MAX era and like so many businesses , they want to try harder to dig the hole that they are already in. Aviation is a government enforced duopoly so 50/50 is the norm , it's not a goal.

Unlikely. Because of the much better fuel economy a stretched A380neo would never have needed the MTOW originally envisioned. The A380 was completely overbuilt with the expectation that it would be quickly stretched with the same early 2000s engine tech and fuel burn. As I said this particular engi...

The engine at this particular size was never intended for an A380neo application. The A380 does not need ~85k+ Lbf of thrust for each engine. An A380neo would use the same engines that RR would throw on a 787 (or A330neo2) I think the next A380 would have been full 80m length A380-900 which would r...

This was always meant for A380 NEO but apparently it was not meant to be. A380 was a square peg forced into a round hole. Dual engines on a double decker is too much wheel reinventing. It would be a suicide project for an engine manufacturer as it wouldn't apply to any other project. I disagree.
