Re: Increased thrust close to rotation

In 737NG's 84 KIAS is where the autothrottles "Hold" and won't fight a pilot trying to input more power. Someone I know very well regularly waits until the hold, and then increases power just a little on reduced thrust takeoffs, if there is an airplane taking off in front of him and he wan...

Re: What makes the B737 an "old, outdated" design?

Moving on; From a pilot aspect the ancient nose and cockpit windows that were borrow from early design B707. The cockpit wind noise is defining. Yet somehow the cockpit of the MAX is noticeably quieter. I've yet to fly the Max, but I should be getting into one soon. I will say that on my one commute...

Re: What makes the B737 an "old, outdated" design?

1. Too low - hurts stretches and engine efficiency. 2. Too narrow - hurts passenger comfort and boarding times. And yes, it's noticeable. 3. Too loud. Both in the cockpit, which is a cacophony compared to its competition, and in the cabin. The cockpit horns dragging through the air causes the air to...

So many relevant and pressing numbers... But the most difficult for Boeing to nail will be how to build and sell a new plane that is ~75% as capable as a 787-10 at 40-50% of the cost. Boeing has no choice, in my opinion, as the 737Max is an outdated embarrassment compared to what is available now. T...

Boeing, in the narrowbody market, has become the company they bought 20 years ago.

This is a bit crude for Tech Ops, but the latest narrow bodies burn 1 Lb or Kg of fuel per hour for every 30 they weigh.
Modern wide bodies are nearer to 40:1.

Feels like 1987 when Boeing tried to compete with a clean-sheet design by shrinking the 300 so it could fly further. How'd that go?

Too low, too cramped, too loud, too much liability (no envelope protections) but they're milking it along.......for the short term.

Kind of embarrassing.

My math has the effective floor area going from 358.2 sq...
