Re: Boom Supersonic new configuration.

Heres an idea: How about 2 kinds of engines on the plane? The overture weighs about 170,000lbs apparently. Why not have one high bypass engine, mounted in the aft fuselage (L1011 style) with some kind of closeable intake door. Something in the 30-35,000lb thrust range would probably be sufficient. ...

I spent a weekend in San Diego a couple weeks ago. Witnessed multiple F-35, F-18, and C-40 (737ng) takeoffs from NAS North Island. There is absolutely no comparing the noise level between the fighters and the airliner, even when the fighters had their afterburners off. Have noticed the same thing s...

They are using afterburner on takeoff which more than doubles the loudness by ear. Boom lists a maximum takeoff weight fractionally lighter than the lightest 737 MAX. The 737 has 238kn of thrust. Four F414 engines has 231kn of thrust without using afterburner. Boom has stated they will not need aft...

It also should be noted that while 30 knots isn’t that fast compared to airborne assets, it is still quite quick, and while carrier are big, the ocean is much bigger. Having an office at an airport that sees F-18 takeoffs, I can say safely that engine is not quiet enough to be even considered. The problem with a route like JFK-LAX is there is a ton of Y demand on the route too.
