With fewer pilots, higher labor and fuel costs, and eventual emissions limits on commercial aviation, I expect the current regional system in the US to slowly wither and die. If a city cannot support a mainline 100+ seat flight to a mega hub, that city won't have air service.

That may have been the case in the past, but considering the fallout from the Bud Light fiasco, I would not be so sure if DL's competitors will take that chance. If anything they might do the opposite. AA has already made this change with the move to Loyalty Points as the only way to earn status.

Good - At least Delta should be able to take care of themselves if they can get the parts needed. The issue is limited to specific batches of engines. Delta's are not affected.
