I think UA also had a lot of intra-European flights in the early 90s after gaining rights from Pan Am when it bought its Heathrow operations? The had some 727s they operated intra-Europe. CDG-ATH I think was one route they operated.

I doubt United is just throwing darts at a board here. They have access to travel and demand data from these cities and they’re using that to try to fill some planes that would otherwise be parked or flying empty. Smart move on United’s part. Bravo!

They’re retaliating against JetBlue’s new EWR services. If Jeff Smisek were still running United, United would have closed EWR as a hub after JetBlue’s new EWR expansion. Good on United for playing ball and getting back into the BOS-LHR market! Get it get it!

Airlines slash prices and flood new competitive routes with unreasonable amounts of flights to force their competitor out of the market and then raise the price back up. Now that Southwest can do this they should. Its unfortunate that alot of people don't realize this and continue to fly on the air...

Southwest may have a strategy adding tons of flights back quickly. But without passengers on those flights, it’s a strategy for failure.

I think United was dumb to sell their JFK-LON authority to Delta when they did and pull out of the JFK-LHR market completely. Just like pulling out of JFK to LAX and SFO.
