But Citi did not invent the sudden #1bn impairment. IMO, it is the Thomas Cook BOD who have some explaining to do. Yeah, exactly, only problem is the board now aren't the board of the MyTravel buyout of 12 years ago so someone down the intervening years has been keeping bad financial figures from t...Jump to post
I'm baffled by why such a huge chunk of the report loss should stem from the 2007 MyTravel merger.
Why does this go into the financial melting pot some 12 years later and not at the time ?
Just announced on the BBC breakfast news - Thomas Cook have announced a £1.45B loss. Yikes ! Doesn't seem the £400M they are trying to raise will go very far... Of course, this result is for the Europe-wide group but it doesn't bode well for the future of Thomas Cook Airlines and Condor in their pre...Jump to post
You can bet the Sri Lankan authorities won't make that mistake again over their intelligence failures. Sad that so many innocents had to die to wake them up though. I hope UL pull through the lean times they will inevitably have now, and that you have a fab holiday to Cape Weligana, it's one of the ...Jump to post
Yeah this is really going to hurt Sri Lanka but the government has no one to blame but themselves. My wife and I even looked at going to SL for an upcoming anniversary but now? Not a chance. Which is too bad - seems like there really are some unique and luxurious experiences to be had there. Not su...Jump to post

It's kind of strange that BA didn't chose to keep LGW-FLL seasonal, 3-4 times per week, Thanksgiving to Easter. Totally agree. FLL does well for cruise passenger traffic in winter from the UK. I think Norwegian should move their flight back to FLL and join the rest of their services from Europe the...Jump to post
This runway closure has been planned for years. Would have expected all operational contingencies to have been sorted well before now.Jump to post
The Chinese are fast learners - look at other high-tech industries. The C919 may be a lot of a lemon in it's present form, but in a decade, I think it'll surprise a few people.Jump to post
My guess is that they went to LGW for more of the charter operations and one went to Virgin Galactic. The Virgin Galactic frame comes from the first wave of 747-400 retirements a few years ago. They're just rightsizing routes, and better utilizing the 747 on routes to Orlando, Cancun etc. If they h...Jump to post
Thank you Lightamp for your first post on A-net re your first hand experience and welcome to A-net. Well scary for sure. Surely the bang of an impact would have told the crew they connected with something ! As for will you ever know what happened, well, you can read it all here but the official vers...Jump to post
As far as restarting LHR is concerned, I wouldn't bother if I was them. No-one is going to risk having their travel plans messed about by Jet delaying or cancelling flights again at short notice. I'm sure any travel company will have them on stop-sale like mine has so no support from that source eit...Jump to post
Clearly, no lessons from Kingfisher's demise have been learned by Jet.
The airline just seems to have capitulated into a black hole of mismanagement.
What other choice have UA got until Boeing pulls their finger out over the 797 specification.Jump to post
Fascinating news and predicted for some time this would happen. But a few words of caution to JetBlue. 1...Announcing their plans so far ahead will give the competition, and there's plenty of that, a chance to react with sales and marketing strategies. 2...STN has a long history of failed TATL servi...Jump to post
Having a lounge for UC passengers instead of a bar area means VS have gone full circle. They originally has a lounge on their 747-200's.Jump to post
I am sure BA can fill some A321s from LGW to some of destinaions in summer. In winter, I guess RAK, GVA, INN, SZG, ACE and TFS could be support A321s in some days. I also think BA should look at some other winter routes such as IVL, RVN or TOS. Flying to those destinations is quite expensive with s...Jump to post
Good point thanks, but a 738 will never carry that much fuel to return to SCL in those circumstances so I'm surprised this flight was allowed.Jump to post
I didn't think IPC has a fuel stock ? Isn't that why the LAN 767's have to carry round-trip fuel for their service there ?Jump to post
If the OP refers to new orders of the same type as already in service but with engines from a different manufacturer, then I'd suggest delivery availability can play a part, performance of the engine type already in service, future performance guarantees of the new engine type, and lots of $$$ in th...Jump to post
Slightly off topic, but if JetBlue are that desperate to start TATL to the UK, could LTN be an option for them ?
LTN's runway shouldn't be an issue for A321LR's and they can pretty much have the slots they want there.
Perhaps even a tie-up with Wizz instead of TCX then.
I'd suggest this was wake turbulence, plenty of A380's flying in that part of the world. However, very bad of the flight crew not to make any announcement afterwards.Jump to post
Why does everyone think LGW doesn't get any business traffic ? Just try coming off a flight from the US and heading for the Financial City area of London on public transport like trains using LGW instead of LHR and I'll think you'll find LGW wins 9 times out of 10.Jump to post
Interesting news.... I wonder where the 2 spare A330s will come from (assuming VS will operate the A330) ? Or will this be growth enabled by the A350s? Pretty sure it is just that, plus the two remaining 789's should be fixed well before then. Although the dates for the future 744 retirements haven...Jump to post
I bet people from VS are reading this thread and are bursting out laughing that so many here were fooled by their April the first stunt.
It's achieved it's aim - to get people talking about it.
I sure Ryanair are kicking themselves for not thinking of doing something similar to their harp logo.
Practically every country has laws that overseas visiting citizens can fall foul of but keep your nose clean when visiting such countries and you won't have a problem. Not that I think going back to medieval punishment methods is in any way fit for any nation to go about perpetrators.Jump to post
The words " high-quality " " extremely low fare " " basic transportation " don't mix too well in the airline industry.
It's either high quality or low fare and basic - he needs to decide which.
They should change their name too- Virgin isn't very inclusive. What about all the non-virgin people in this world? "Person Atlantic" would be a good choice. Oh good grief - you are clearly a Daily Mail reader ! If all this nonsense generates a bit of extra Ryanair-style tongue-in-cheek p...Jump to post
