BAC 1-11's were my main type I flew back in the 70's and early 80's. Always remember my BA flights LHR - THF on them and deplaning and boarding via the rear steps under the famous THF roof.

Had Norwegian not expanded so much on TATL routes from LGW then I could see AA / UA returning but not now. I think once DL start and possibly B6 then LGW will have it's fill of US routes.

Boris Johnson must think LHR is still full of old Tridents, VC-10 and 1-11's they way he goes on about noise. He should spend an afternoon at the Myrtle Avenue green and he'll soon hear the A30 road traffic makes far more noise than the flights do.

As far as restarting LHR is concerned, I wouldn't bother if I was them. No-one is going to risk having their travel plans messed about by Jet delaying or cancelling flights again at short notice. I am sure BA can fill some A321s from LGW to some of destinaions in summer. In winter, I guess RAK, GVA, INN, SZG, ACE and TFS could be support A321s in some days. Slightly off topic, but if JetBlue are that desperate to start TATL to the UK, could LTN be an option for them ?
LTN's runway shouldn't be an issue for A321LR's and they can pretty much have the slots they want there.
Perhaps even a tie-up with Wizz instead of TCX then.

I think BA should, on peak demand dates, schedule the 3-class 777's on a few Med & Canary Isl routes in between the long-hauls in much the way Asian airlines do short-hauls between long-hauls with their wide-body fleets.

Why does everyone think LGW doesn't get any business traffic ? Just try coming off a flight from the US and heading for the Financial City area of London on public transport like trains using LGW instead of LHR and I'll think you'll find LGW wins 9 times out of 10.
