I for one am glad it's completely gone from at least the US. The smoke literally makes my lungs reactive and I have to carry an inhaler to compensate.

I do clearly remember the ash trays in the arm rests from some time in the 80's and maybe early 90's?

I've always enjoyed using liveatc on my flights. Of course there are limitations. The wifi being shut off during approach for one, but I listen religiously while on the ground. :) By the time you're on approach, or at least final, couldn't you turn the cellular data back on? I've had varied results...
