Terrorism. For example, in 1977 the Gran Canaria airport was closed because of a bomb exploded in the terminal. Flights to the airport had to divert, including KLM 4805 and Pan Am 1736. We know what happened next.

As someone said ME3 took that traffic away from them, plus with multiple stops and Garuda's reputation made them a less attractive option. Didnt they have a safety issue with EU at one point too, leading to a ban? Happy to be corrected, however I believe the safety issue was with Indonesian airline...

On a similar note, also MES-DPS. There are no direct flights between Medan and Denpasar, not even on JT. Apparently it is more lucrative to force people to transfer in CGK first instead of operating nonstops. MES is the IATA code for the old airport serving Medan. The city is now served by Kualanam...

I'm wondering if DPS is served from North America. DPS is one of the most visited destinations from overseas. If there were flights to HKT from North America, probably AM, HA, WS would serve those routes. Its not, easy connection through SIN though. I think what eta unknown wrote was just a sarcasm...

Thai, Indonesian, and Malaysian diaspora in the US are way smaller in number than the Filipino and the Vietnamese. Even Cambodian and Laotian are larger. Other than SQ, they usually fly Taiwanese, Japanese, or Korean airlines to the US.

Hw come people don't really hate the 737-600 for that reason? I always seem to get the 735 and 736 confused, since their seating capacities are about the same.

A bit of a stretch, but CGK is not Chonqging (old reading Chungking). It is Soekarno-Hatta Airport, named after the area in West Jakarta where it is located, C en GK areng. I think the future of QF fleet will be A220, A32*neo, 787, and A350. The A330 will be replaced by both A321neo and 787, depending on the distances and how thick the routes are.

779 doesn't have the range needed for ULH routes like SIN-JFK/EWR/LAX. Capacity and range-wise, the aircraft will be the best replacement for 77W and A380.

Would hate to have a seat far out in one of the wing portions... This. One thing that won't make flying wings like this became passenger aircraft in the near future is the limitation of human physiology. We may live long enough to see them flying as drones and freighters, but not carrying passengers.

No one was concerned about the 787 return to service after the battery grounding. Why should anything be different now? No one died because of the 787 battery problem. Hundreds of people died because of the MAX MCAS problem. That's the difference. Same thing happened with the a330 after AF 447. Or ...
