Can the Comac C919 break the airliner duopoly?

With the current crisis at Boeing and the huge backlog at Airbus, would it be profitable at this point in the market cycle for another western aerospace giant (e.g. Lockheed, Northrop) to invest in the C919 program and produce it in the west? maybe even build a larger version and get ahead in the Mo...

Re: Airports where pax had to use stairs to board 747, DC-10, L-1011

DC-10s from IB at IIopango International Airport (ILS), during the late 70s; San Salvador, El Salvador. Everything done by stairs. Route was MAD, SJU, SJO, ILS. I don’t know how those pilots managed to land those DC-10s at ILS; 7,300ft runway, airport surrounded by mountains on one end and a ravine ...

Re: Movie Theater Seats on Airliners?

Thank you for your comments Moose135. Maybe there's a seat manufacturer that can make a folding seat, that can withstand a 16G force. With new materials coming along all the time, maybe it can be a possibility in the future.

Movie Theater Seats on Airliners?

Wouldn't it be easier to get in and out of the middle and window seats, if airliners had theater type seating, were the bottom part of the seat pulls up? The person on the aisle or middle seats would only have stand up by folding the bottom part of their seat, to let a fellow passenger in and out of...

Re: Boeing 737-10MAX Decision Seen By End Of Year

So at this point, what would be less expensive: raise the gear and stretch the fuselage of the MAX 9 or invest in the machinery to manufacture a 757 MAX?

To quote from the movie Fargo "Which is the best bad idea you have?"

Could Airships Be Used To Unclog Traffic?

Instead of developing flying cars, which all prototypes seem to end up as good planes, but terrible cars; could Lockheed's Hybrid Airships be used to ferry cars around in large metro areas to help unclog traffic? Some questions to consider would be: 1) How many cars can one of these Airships carry? ...

RE: Can A 762 Carry GEnx Engines?

Interesting, thank you all for your posts. @DocLightning: Great idea about 737-style nacelles. From a production stand point, which do you think would be cheaper to develop, build a 762 with GEnx Engines and 737 style nacelles or shorten a 787-8 to the size of a 762? Which of the two aircraft do you...

If technically possible, without redesigning wings or landing gear, can this aircraft be the answer for those carriers that have "issues" (restricted belly space and poor hot & high performance) with A321NEOLR?

RE: Airbus Launches A321NEOLR To Replace 757 Part 2

With all this talk about taking 185 passengers and tons of Icelandic fish, could an alternative for Icelandair be to swap the MAX order for a 767-200 with GEnx engines and CFRP tweaks? (maybe call it 767-8) 1) 767 production is still open. 2) It probably won't be as efficient as an A321NEOLR, but pr...

RE: Airbus Launches A321NEOLR To Replace 757 - Leeham

Could Boeing counter with a 757neo? I know bringing an old line back to production could be costly, but if there is a sufficient market out there between the three US legacies and Asian carriers, maybe it could be profitable for Boeing, before Y1 is developed. While we are on the subject of narrow b...

Thank you all for your responses; I haven't logged on in a while. I know it's just a machine, it just seems that many of us A.nutters want this program to keep on going.

BTW, since the global economy is stuck in slow growth, any chance that the 747-8F can be offered as a C-5 Galaxy replacement?

Could The 747-8 Be Turned Into A Sonic Cruiser?

In our never ending quest to save The Queen from the evil twins (A350/777), I was wandering, could the 747-8 be tweaked and turned into something close to the proposed Sonic Cruiser? I read somewhere that the 747-400 was the fastest subsonic airliner around. I don't know, faster engines, minor aerod...

And why has the A358 not attracted many orders?

I thought that the A358 was an A330 replacement.

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I know there is a 9 part discussion about the A330 neo becoming a reality, but I can't find anything on why the A358 has not attracted many customers.

(This is my first post, please forgive me for any mistakes and point them out) I recently read an article about the Convair 990 Coronado, where it was stated that the four large anti-shock bodies on the upper wing surface were indispensable to make the Coronado the world's fastest jetliner. 1) I was...
