Re: Southwest grounding many airplanes.

Would this grounding be the reason I saw ~ 15-20 WN aircraft parked nose-north north of C-councourse at DEN on Wednesday last week (8 Aug). I only noticed them after looking at photos I snapped of DEN while on downwind arriving to the north from PHX. DEN had a freak hailstorm last week. That might ...

Yes, that's exactly why. The fire is in between Lake Elsinore and Corona which is where the normal path to SNA would be for A/C flying in from the East. There's currently a TFR through that area.

I can't imagine WN has talks with Airbus for any reason other than to squeeze Boeing for a few bucks on an order. Their entire operation has run on the 737 for 30+ years and given the continuity (parts, training, etc) between series and the size of their fleet, they don't have a particularly pressi...

In California especially it is just as easy to drive I-5 as it is to fly SFO>LAX. I-5 makes inter-west coast driving very easy as it runs from Seattle to San Diego. I don’t think anyone driving I-5 at virtually any hour of the day between SF and LA would call it easy. I think the West is harder for...

The inevitable fact is that eventually the 737 will need to be completely replaced. And Airbus would love to have WN's post 737 order. Boeing would not be so stupid to let that happen, much else all of the other 737 customers. The 797 will have to replace the 737 and somewhat the 757 too.

All aircraft operating above 10,000’ have to have sufficient oxygen on board, so “if they even carried oxygen” is not a factor. The NOAA Gulfstream regularily overflies major hurricanes at F450 or F470. Hurricanes depend on upper level high pressure and clear air to “exhaust” the heat pump. Think o...

As for the 717, I think HA has started evaluating aircraft options in the future. I would think a C Series would be an interesting plane to look at. It all comes down to the engines. I think LightningZ71 has it pretty much correct. A reengined A319 Neo might well work, and it would have the benefit...
