LHR had 3 flights a day in late 78. 707 from THR plus a 74L to JFK and another from JFK to THR. LHR had 550 staff based in London, that fell to 50 almost overnight at the time of the revolution. Before the revolution their central London office used to get the pro-Khomeini supporters come in, smash ...Jump to post
Maybe Iron Maiden can take it on tour!
I wonder if someone might snap it up as a vip or government run around? Mines bigger than yours....
Agreed that Club Europe is really a waste but there are a few exceptions : BA 777 LHR-MAD-LHR going to B789 soon. IB A346/A330 MAD-LHR-MAD. AY A350 HEL-LHR-HEL. LA B789 MAD-FRA-MAD. These can all be booked with BA/Avios. I’ve done them all in J & loved everyone. A great way to try long haul air...Jump to post
My heart says Air New Zealand my head as a OW FF says AA as my choice.
But seriously depends on your criteria.
Actually if cost is a factor do check NZ because at certain times they have some great fares and promos (Inc PY) to fill the plane during low season UK-NZ-UK periods. Well worth checking.
Perfectly explained VirginFlyer :) Thanks both ... I figured you get some internal furnishings sometimes. But I hadn't really noticed them that much on the 787 before. Probably because it was a Qantas 787 that I was looking properly this time. I've got a flight on her booked and cabin looks nice. I...Jump to post
160 days till she arrives in LHR...not that I'm counting them.
I'm surprised she appears to be missing a number of windows. Row 57 towards the rear for example. Just curious why that would be?
To be honest this is why I've bought a few tickets for next month to fly to over to Berlin for the day to fly to Frankfurt and back on a pair of Lufthansa 744s. Fantastic opportunity to try one (hopefully a few). Lufthansa probably we will the only airline to be able to say they've operated the 747 ...Jump to post
For me the Tristar I think. Gulf Air and the BWIA liveries were the best. I haven't seen one for years. I popped down to Lyon the other day and almost bolted out of my seat when I spotted one near the runway! These are ones I miss seeing and I've included 2 Airlines for each too to show which ones I...Jump to post
From London why not try the BA 787 down to Madrid ? Approx GBP85 return cheapest fare. BA are taking off the 777 and putting the 787 on the 460 (I think it is) but certainly the 461 MAD LHR - I've booked a couple of flights on it. Alternatively you've also got the Latam 787 from MAD to FRA ...for a...Jump to post
I'm interested to know why you say the A380 is the most uncomfortable plane you fly on. My airline of choice (Qantas) fly them too and whilst I'm trying their new Dreamliner next year, my flights on the 787 so far don't compare to the A380. Is it the plane or the airline? Ie the cabin experience is...Jump to post
Really? and how much cost analysis have you done on fleet planning? Lets break it down very simplistic: Fuel burn of 4 engines as opposed to 2 engines over the length of a flight. What some of the Gulf carriers who fly their A320s into Europe and then from their hubs further East for example? Thinking of perhaps Turkish with theory A320s or B737? But Gulf Air for example fly their A320s to a LHR occasionally but do the also send them into India or SE Asia or Africa. I was thi...Jump to post

I don't use or have Avios points myself but miles with another OW carrier. So not 100% clear on what Avios rules are. Defiantly don't use them in a European flight. They are relatively cheap enough in the first place so you won't get value for money/points. Its better to buy a European ticket outrig...Jump to post
One thing is true, when planning my travels I go out of my way to fly the A380, it's a superb plane and I hope to see it around for a long time. And I am the reverse of you :D ; I go out of my way to avoid the A380 when planning my trips, even if that means a longer layover, and I wish my airline o...Jump to post

Have you flown an particular aircraft on every operator/ airline? I have done on the 767-400ER and soon to flown every operator of the A380 by April. Getting all 13 operators of the A380 is quite a feat. Especially with limited routes/number in some such as QR, OZ and CZ. I’ve only got EK and EY al...Jump to post
The 380 has been dead for several years; all we are waiting for is the funeral. Its a niche plane that only a few operators purchased and can use. Every plane has an era; the quads have passed and now the twins are in control. Well don't stand around. Take a seat you've got to wait a while yet. Agr...Jump to post
Constant bussing, often wrong terminal, tiny overhead, noisey and noticeably slower... mmmm. No wonder anecdotal loads lower than target. Dash is easy to make a profit with though. Status pax wont touch this. I've status on BA and I'm trying Flybe in a couple of weeks. Suit's me to use BA but nice ...Jump to post
Why does it matter about the flight not going to KHI? Just curious. You shouldn't ask for others to vote to decide for you but really make your own mind up. Either you want to go or you don't. Sounds like you're not really that keen if your finding reasons not to do it. Ultimately you must make that...Jump to post
Pan Am - always flew with them to the US, plus I could watch them fly over our house heading West Northwest Orient - always wanted to fly on them, I especially liked the livery with the blue stripe that stopped short of the front door. TWA - like Pan Am, I grew up with them at LHR, their Tristars, ...Jump to post
Takes me back i remember we had a family friend in Eastbourne who we'd visit by train. The highlight for me was changing trains at Gatwick station and we'd often see the Sky trains passing over. He had a pair of A300s briefly as I recall too. Quite a character Sir Freddie was. I wonder where they'd ...Jump to post

Whenever I've flown LHR-FCO I've always flown AZ and the flights always been full.
The last flight back is often heavy with China Southern code share passengers. That will end if they're at STN .
Sad to see another of the launch customers finally retire the 747. The last flight to HNL makes me think of the Hawaii 5-0 footage they used in the later series, of the 747-100 in the original livery. I saw a UA 747 at LHR last week. I flew to FRA and there was one there too. Looks like they're the ...Jump to post
Funny I was only looking at flights to Italy on them this evening. If they go to Stansted that will be it as far as I'm concerned as LHR is on my door step. They are constantly having sales on their flights all the time. It's a bit like Pan Am did, selling off the silver to pay the rent. We all know...Jump to post
It also highlights how (not just airlines) companies work on such tight operational constraints. Days of there being fat in the system are long gone and everyone has to operate a tight ship these days. The days of spare equipment or staff are long gone.Jump to post
Finnair have a bus serice from HEL to the central railway station ...used it this morning. Really good service.
In the 1960s /70s BEA used to have a double decker bus with trailer I believe from LHR to central London I believe.
