I partly disagree with you on that. Finnair captures great part of traffic to N.America from Russia. It is almost always lost in discussions like this that AY's hub is an X-shaped hub, with the Western Europe-Asia leg being way larger than Eastern Europe-N. America leg, of course. Wow you did get a good seat ;) Now I know what to try next time in Thailand, I want in the front AND in the hump of B747. I have flown widebodies on BKK-HKT a couple of times but always missed 747. I hope it's still there next time... Yes I agree, the Royal Silk domestic lounge is disappointing.

Nothing official from Finnair yet but this sounds reliable, Sapporo (CTS) has been on the table for a quite some time. It looks they especially have the European ski tourists in their mind, rather than Hokkaido people travelling to Europe. Perhaps Haneda next, that's been on their wish list too.

Little birds in Japan chirp Finnair would open Sapporo next winter, the frequency being twice a week. Sapporo (with Nanjing and Busan) was one of the three possible destinations mentioned when the new overflight deal with Russia was announced in 2017.

Finavia comfirms the coming Jinan-Helsinki service by Tibet Airways. It is currently planned the new route will commence on April 8th, operated with Airbus A330 twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. I have a soft spot for widebodies on short routes so AY A359 on HEL-LHR (J) was a clear winner in 2018.

The >6h flights HEL-LPA-HEL on AY A321ER was expected to be the worst ones but wasn't that bad actually... With a better legroom seat in front and a free seat next to me. Nice crews.

Thank you both for your replies. It is interesting that AY has managed to do so well on this market despite increasing competition. AY once had bigger plans for India, like India-US East Coast connections via HEL but this hasn't really materialized. BOM was axed and beside DEL there now is seasonal...

It looks AY made a deal with BA who announced the cancellation of BA798/795 LHR-HEL for S19, the capacity was moved to Finnair. The total number of seats will increase though, with the A333.

Finnair is adding capacity to LHR from 31MAR19, a new daily service and more widebody flights.

A new daily service on HEL-LHR:
AY1343 11:40-12:50
AY1344 13:50-18:45

The daily 1337/1338 gets an A333 and the A350 on 1331/1332 continues as well.

As well as there is no direct links beteween Scandinavia and South America. SAS flew to GIG and GRU for a few time back at the 80s and 90s and Varig served CPH via LHR from GRU with 777/MD-11 till its end. It looks like BA will drop HEL from 2x daily to just 1x daily in S19. Coming back to this, in addition to the current morning A350 flight, AY will fly another LHR flight with a widebody from next spring.
