Re: JetBlue/Spirit Merger Discussion thread - 2024

Those hubs would likely still be closed absent the mergers of 2007-2015. STL and PIT were already gone. CVG, CLE, and MEM were heavily reliant on regional feed that used low-wage pilots doing time waiting to get called up to the big carriers. The airlines just wouldn't have been able to staff the f...

Re: JetBlue/Spirit Merger Discussion thread - 2024

The fortress hubs generally did not develop as the result of mergers. There are a few for which that is true -- IAH (CO/TI), DTW (NW/RP), and MSP (also NW/RP) -- but those mergers happened decades ago. The other fortress hubs might have changed hands as the result of mergers, but most of the large ...

All this talk of CLE-SJO is so odd. SJO isn’t even in CLE’s top 15 international markets ranked by demand lol. CLE-ICN has more PDEW for crying out loud. It’s interesting right as NK cuts CLE-LAX almost immediately MX adds CAK-LAX. With the discount travelers moving south, let’s hope it entices UA to bring back the 3rd daily CLE-LAX.

CLE-SJO would be a bit of regional draw as well. I really don't see MX/F9/NK starting PIT/CMH-SJO anytime soon. Does DL fly DTW-SJO? A market could be built from a seasonal 1x/2x weekly flight. Hoping CLE FIS can handle a CUN/PUJ/MBJ/SJO day. Certaintly would be testing it's limits if a flight or tw...

NK could offer routes that have both demand and are unique to CLE--in addition to their standard money makers--such as AUS and MCI. If they did that in every market, they'd be more profitable. I don’t know what specific plans F9 has for CLE but we can all agree they are in growth mode which isn’t a bad thing. Frontier wouldn’t be investing in the crew base if they didn’t see good financial numbers from the station. That’s all you can really discern from their recent actions.
