Re: LHR third runway lives again!

I am pro expansion but the existing plans are a step too far. Up to 40% of the land already owed there is wasted and could be better utilised. The Beeline base, T4 and the whole central area should be levelled and replaced by a new terminal and toast-rack satellites between the runways. Ban cars fro...

A LEAP (or even electric) powered 4-engined VC-10 / IL-62 type would be very cool though. Something a bit different from today’s boring twins. It wouldn’t need all that extra weight added to the wings.

Re: John Leahy blames the engines for the A380 failure

It does not matter that the A380 had engines half a generation behind the 787/A350. The problem was there were four of them, not two. If the A380 were designed better, it would have been a much smaller twin. A bit like an A350-1100 Then EK would not have decimated the legacy carriers in the same way...

MCAS caused the two crashes and the subsequent near two year grounding. It should have been ripped out of the MAX completely back in March 2019, not rehashed with a version 2. It is clear that MCAS is needed both as a stall prevention system, and to make the flight characteristics of the MAX as pred...

The A380-800 was the Airbus equivalent of the Boeing 747-SP It was shortened but retained all that extra weight, ready for the -900 which never came. It only sold as many as it did because of EK and other vanity carriers trying to keep up. Without EK it too would also have only sold 58 frames. COVID...

Trivia from Google.

There are approximately 53000 commercial ships in the world vs 24000 commercial aircraft. Growth before the pandemic was over 3% a year.

Shipping probably carries a payload of 10000 x that of an aircraft, so any comparison on pollution and emissions is pretty meaningless.

I have not seen this discussed before. Is this a common problem when an A319/320 is substituted for an A321?
