It's interesting that these kind of excursions seem to happen more to 737s than to a320s.
Maybe some 737 pilots could comment? Is there something about this plane that causes them to be more difficult to land in severe conditions?

If by Chinese competition they mean the A320-sized C919 and the 787-sized CR929 I don't think the definition of Middle Of the Market changes at all. Wasn't it because the 744s that they got from Canadian didn't have the same engines as the 744s in the Air Canada fleet and that the maintenance costs were too high

I recently took a flight on a E175 with Air Canada from YUL to IAH and we blocked in at 4h 45. I think it responds to a specific market similar to the 787 city to city instead of going through a hub.

Speed didn't fluctuate like that if we take a pitot tube related incident like AF447 iirc. Isn't the FR24 speed the Ground Speed which is calculated by the aircraft's navigation system ...
