I'm curious at what point during the flight the acts documented in the pictures happened and how/why Sunwing decided to proceed to Cancun anyway. Without such details it seems hypocritical for Sunwing to proceed with the flight as normal and now do an about-face and ban the same passengers.

San Jose is difficult to get to if you live north of San Mateo on the Peninsula or Hayward in the East Bay, and Oakland is none of three legacy airlines had much of a presence in Oakland. Also, it's in Oakland.

I applaud this development! I'm usually against overly nitpicky laws, but in the case of ridiculous small plastic water bottles I would be for a total, nationwide ban. Just go buy a reusable plastic water bottle a sporting goods store and take with you wherever you go. Works like a charm.

I've looked around on the inter-webs but don't see much solid evidence that evacuation was slowed by passengers trying to get their luggage/bags. Transpacific flights avoiding North Pacific

Looking at flight tracking maps today it looks like flights from California to Japan or China are not flying the great circle route but are instead keeping far south of the North Pacific. Was curious if bad weather or turbulence up north is causing this large-scale diversion? Thanks.

If he was turning to land where the accident occurred then he was very close to the runway threshold but relatively far from the centerline. Thus the pilot may have been trying to lose altitude with a countercontrol skid and unfortunately entered into an unrecoverable stall spin.
