Source is DOT T-100 Segment Data for 12 months ended June 2016.

For period NYC-YTO had 1,315,852 pax on 1,712,749 seats which per both my and DOTs math equals 77% LF.

Regarding market share, Canadian airlines had 87% and US carriers 13% between the cities.

Remember its Q1, the weakest period of the year for them. They have lost money in Q1 since 2005. Yes the loss is larger now, but so is the revenue.

Analyst still forecast nice healthy profits for them in 2017.

NYC-YTO is the largest US-Canada city pair.
Some 1,315,852 flew between the cities for the 12-months ending June 2016 with average loadfactor of 77%.
Add in many thousand of connecting passengers that also route via these city pairs, it seems the capacity is inline with demand.

Yes TK TPE flights transit PRC airspace depending on optimal winds/route

You'll have to ask European airlines why they did what they did, but TK as with folks like EK has no issues serving both PRC and ROC using same brand.

For those dumping on Smisek, I doubt he had much to do with, or even involved in the JFK decision making.

The decision was likely driven between Jim Compton VP chief revenue officer and Brian Znotins VP Network, both no longer with the company.
