Re: For the detail-oriented enthusiasts around

I'm thinking the engine Nearest us in the picture looks to have a different size cowl. Its a bit longer. EDIT: maybe "thicker" would be the correct term not necessarily longer. The cowling around the nozzle is bigger than the inboard; ANOTHER EDIT: looking at other pictures this is common....

Re: Largest T-tail, rear engine aircraft

What is the largest prop T-tail built? Or top 3-5 variants in size rank like someone listed above. Pretty sure the A400M is the largest prop with T-tail. ATR-72 second? The Q400 is larger than the ATR I believe. Tail is like 2 feet higher, and the MTOW is higher, not mention its a longer airplane. ...

Re: IAE V2500 Engine

I'd wager a strong amount what you're actually hearing is the spoilers being deployed. Airbus spoiler noise is very noticeable on the ground once you recognize the sound. The sound would be especially prevalant if you happen to live under a fix that requires the pilots to slow or descend. Looking a...

Re: Longest fuselage (proportional) length difference?

It would be interesting to see the percentages if we included only the useful space gained. For example, Although the A321 is 41% longer than the A318 OVERALL, the A321 can hold almost 60% more people. I guess what Im getting at it, in terms of percentage, how many more fuselage sections/frames/etc....

Re: BBC: Will Circular Runways Ever Take Off?

Whoever came up with this idea has no concept of the physics. Taking off or landing in a bank would increase the stall speed and effective weight vector. While a high banked track works well for high traction four wheeled vehicles designed with negative lift, all of the advantages are lost for an a...

Nothing against WN, but I've seen them do some impressive things with a 737. From close-in side-steps to S- turns, taxxiing at 40 MPH, and even a slip. The former three are not uncommon, however, a big jet should probably never be seen in a forward...

AAL A330 Emergency Landing PHL

Just got word of an Emergency Landing in Philly, pops says it was an A330. From the sounds of it, "un-eventful". Its been less than ten minutes, and all the Fire trucks are already leaving the aircraft. So probably nothing too exciting! Anyways just thought I'd bring light to the situation. I'll pos...

RE: A321 - Why Did It Take So Long?

The A321 is a great aircraft. It may be a bit disproportional in stature, but i think part of the reason it is so successful right now is that concept of fleet commonality. US Airways is the largest A321 operator in the world (not to mention largest Airbus operator) but they got their start with the...

Short Landing (way Before Threshold)?

The second video shows the delay still. The Spoilers come up on the video a few seconds after the touchdown is heard. With regard to the first video, he probably touched down within the first 500-1000 feet of the runway which is pretty short, but the delay makes it seem worse.

At UND we use "Sioux" everywhere now. Flight numbers are assigned by tail number so each aircraft always has the same flight number. For example , a Cessna 172 , say N515ND is always NDU15 "Sioux one five" . This did not used to e the case , however. We used to use the tail numbers when outside of h...
