I know STS is DESPERATE for a route further east. They would love UA to start DEN/ORD or DL SLC/MSP. I'm not sure Avelo would do any of those but I'm sure STS will be thrilled if they can get something Rockies or east.

Who (why) give a "word not allowed" why the airplane went around. Someone in the cockpit (or ATC) felt it was necessary and that's how they are trained and taught. The actual question is, why did they do such a poor job at it.

Order 7110.65 requires ATC to ask for fuel remaining in time. That's helpful because if communications with the aircraft are lost, it can provide SAR with idea how much further the aircraft may have travelled after the last known location. Some facilities may have in their SOP or letter of agreement...
