It is blurred.
No matter how steady the camera is, presumably on a tripod, the aircraft will have been buffeted by the jets of de-icing fluid during the exposure and any slight wind will also move the aircraft about.

It is like the return of an old friend except that the information on the left is in the wrong order, start with the registration, then cn (MSN) aircraft type and operator.....for me anyway. I think that most of us could tell from a thumbnail that it was Iberia and an Airbus 320 so put the bits that...
Jump to postI think that hits are not counting at all on many images. They are evidently working on new images but do not seem to be counting at all on older ones. If you search for anything with a number, the number of hits features in any search which explains many anomalous results. I pointed this out a whil...

Revelation's point is that the site popularity has fallen dramatically since the relaunch and who can fail to agree with him? Looking at that graph the site fell about 2000 places in popularity in the ten months prior to the relaunch, another 1000 in the two months since it. I hope that the changes ...

Jump to postKas You have been doing a great job keeping everyone informed and no one is blaming you but after five weeks, images displayed as they are for an AVIATION PHOTOGRAPHY website is really unacceptable. Jump to postI agree with Kulverstukas. I am afraid that these changes, these improvements, are minor after five weeks...
Jump to postWhilst Kas has clearly been doing a great job keeping everyone updated it is deplorable that he is having to try to get the portrait image issue brought to the attention of the Developers after a month. Jump to postI am staggered that after a month portrait images are still not displayed properly, images are displayed cropped at the nose, tail, fin or wheels and yet there is a poll for what colour forum text should be, grey or off white. Jump to postThe appearance of the forum is better to me but it now seems that it is a 'stand alone', almost not a part of the main site. The links to photos, searches etc have disappeared so that instead of lots of scrolling, you have to keep going back !

Tim,
Hope you are well.
Thanks for this. I have a lot of images that have been taken without my permission too and I will give this a try.
The fee of 50% of any fees does initially seem rather a lot but they do the work and your 50% is still better than 100% of nothing !

For internet you should be saving in sRGB.
I think that is your problem
Mick Bajcar
That does look better to me.
What camera is it and do you have any in camera sharpening set ?
Mick
Are you re-sizing after sharpening ? If so, try sharpening after the image has been re-sized.
Sharpening is best left as the last thing you do before saving.
Mick Bajcar
If the camera is going to be on a solid tripod, use your lowest ISO and stop the lens down well, f8 or f11 for a good depth of field. Minimise the number of lights in the frame as they can often lead to flare and sometimes moving your position very slightly can avoid them. A lens hood is important t...

Jump to postFlare such as that is not necessarily light bouncing back from the sensor though it is usually as a result of a bright light source within or just outside the frame. Peter I am pretty sure (though not certain) of the reason for this. It was used to indicate whether an aircraft should...

We all make mistakes with exposure on occasion but understanding what has gone wrong is important and that comes back to what Photopilot said - understand it all ! Jump to postPhotopilot's answer is the only really accurate one here though in practical terms Megatop12 is close to the mark. Jump to postI still suspect poor panning and it can be blur in more than one plane, up and down as well as side to side. However I think we also foget the camera as it is so easy to blame the lens. Jump to postIf you photograph light aircraft it is also far more likely that you will get known to the pilots and you known to them than at the big airports. Jump to postI would suggest uneven panning, even though you are at a reasonable shutter speed, the background is quite blurred as you would expect from a far lower shutter speed. This could explain why some images are ok, others not. Panning takes practice and it is important to start with your hips parallel to...

It looks like abuse (use) of the shadow/highlight function to me which would also explain the increased noise(grain) too, though there is very little sign of the usual halos if that was the case.
