Beloved A.nutters, I need to make an upcoming booking and I'm dithering whenever it comes to making the final purchase. Anyway, here goes: Context I am currently based in Belgium. I need to be in Montreal at the start of November 2023. Star Alliance Gold member here. Tickets on the nonstop AC BRU-YU...
Jump to postBest airline for me were 2 companies, easyjet and Wizz Air. Had a number of short sectors around Europe with them. Easy to use, reliable, and systematic. Worst airline was Swiss. Flew CAI-ZRH. Despite being a 4-hour flight, only free water and a bite of chocolate was offered to passengers in Econom...

Hi, 1. The Nile Ritz-Carlton is a very good choice! Centrally located, 5* rooms and service, and in the heart of central Cairo, with good access to all the sights you might want to see. Adding a 3rd night is certainly not a bad idea at all. 2. Gouna is a self-contained resort town with a number of h...
Jump to postFirst of all, welcome to Egypt! Hope you eventually have a great trip. I think you've done your research and it shows. A trip to Cairo/Luxor & Aswan/Red Sea is a great introductory trip that covers all all the important things. 1. Cairo would need at least 2 full days to see the Pyramids, the Eg...
Jump to postThanks for sharing, I felt like I was on the trip with you!
Jump to postAs someone from Egypt who flies regularly I can definitely say that I've flown every 77W and A333 in the MS fleet as I have a lot between CAI and DXB (was averaging at least 3-4 roundtrips per year on that route alone) plus to and from LHR, JFK, CDG. They have 6 77Ws and 3 A333s I believe. Plus I ha...
Jump to postRJ and AMM were pretty popular and popular with transferring passengers in the 80s and 90s. They sort of went quiet but were always there. The Zuwar stopover program has been around for years and even though RJ may have cut some routes they have always maintained a presence in NA and East Asia. Real...
Jump to postShortest international: Dammam-Bahrain on Gulf Air, 86 km
Longest domestic; Xi'an-Shanghai Pudong on Air China, 1274 km
Really hope we finally see DEL-CAI on AI.
Currently MS flies CAI-BOM and connections/pricing options to other Indian cities aren't optimal. Currently the other Gulf/Middle East airlines take the lion's share of the market.
Could it be something like ATL-JED?
SkyTeam hub-to-hub route, massive potential for connections on either end.
The ride itself will take a few minutes. But you will need to be quick and not dilly dally.
T1 is quite a distance from T2 and T3 which are very close to each other.
EgyptAir domestic flights depart and arrive at Terminal 3, not 2.
Your best bet is the APM Automated People Mover.
Simply walk out of Terminal 1, find the APM, and get off at Terminal 3.
No airside shuttles unfortunately.
In the Middle East, the obvious example is DXB being at most 2 or 3 hours' drive from most of the country. There is naturally a lot of leakage both ways (many Dubai-based people prefered to fly Etihad out if Abu Dhabi ) but I suspect the leakage is favorable towards DXB than AUH/SHJ. Similarly, DMM ...

Usually involved landing in a city then leaving by train or vv.
My longest streak is 4 flights on 4 airlines, back in 2017:
29/10 EK DXB-CAI 77W
14/11 MS DXB-LHR 77W
17/11 UA LHR-IAD 787
22/11 OS IAD-VIE 767
5th flight, on 23/11 MS VIE-CAI, broke the streak
Usually most of my trips are round trips on the same airline, so I kind of got lucky here =)
I have flown
Egyptair DHA-CAI-CAI
British Airways DHA/DMM-LGW
Gulf Air BAH/AUH-CAI, BAH-LHR
Austrian IAD-VIE (this was as recent as 2017)

Yes, they can. Provided they have a valid visa or ESTA, they are admissable to the US.
The best way is to fly nonstop from Africa or via a country that is not on the list of banned countries (basically Europe+ India+ China and a few others).
Via Dubai or Doha, or Istanbul should be fine as well.
Perhaps this route can be taken over by flydubai? They have a lot of secondary Italian destinations served with their 737. Unless BLQ does particularly well for some reason to justify year round WB service.
Jump to postMy last trip was in November 2019 to Vancouver BC for a conference. Routing was CAI-FRA-YVR on the bound on LH (A321 and Boeing 744). On the return I flew YVR-YYC-LHR-CAI (A320, 787, 777). On the FRA-YVR (744) and YYC-LHR (787-9) legs, I was in Premium Economy. Made a huge difference in terms of com...

I remember that around 2008-2012, Qatar Airways seemed to be doing pretty well in KTM. In comparison, flydubai wasn't even flying to KTM during that period. Only Air Arabia had flights to KTM from SHJ. Don't know the extent of (Royal) Nepal Airlines' UAE operations around that time. In the second de...
Jump to postWhy would Aeroflot bother flying down under to an obscure backwater like pre-2000 Olympics Sydney? Genuinely curious.
Jump to postThe 767 was used on the Gatwick to Dhahran (later Dammam) route in the 90s.
I also remember that sometime in the 2010s BA would schedule the 767 into DXB from LHR. Sometimes they would have 4 flights into Dubai during the winter schedule and the 1400 flight out of Dubai was a 767.
1. LHR (and LGW back when you had more longhaul flights land there) 2. DXB (DXB as an airport has had a reputation since the 80s and 90s, at least regionally. The association with shopping is particularly strong). 3. JFK 4. ATL (as a kid in the 90s I remember knowing it was the world's busiest airpo...

Jump to postLate comer to the party, but here is what I remember: Qatar Airways was the unofficial second airline for many people going to/from Dubai, replacing the role Gulf Air had played until the mid 2000s. The various rail projects that have been promised are unlikely to materialize.
