Re: AA, Crandall, and the PA Pacific Sale

The pacific sale was perfect for United due to their SFO operation. SFO is the perfect hub to Asia just like MIA is the perfect Latin America gateway. Not sure how American could have taken full advantage of the Pan Am pacific routes without a fortress hub like SFO. I came looking for this point. T...

Alaska Airlines is smart. Marketplace realities suggest that the costs ass...

I read of some US based crew flying 160 hours a month. Is this true? What is generally min and max? This is absolutely true. At my airline there are some F/A's who fly a west coast turn from their east coast base 6 x week (think NYC-LAX-NYC or NYC-SFO-NYC several days in a row). They average 225 hr...

My first reaction was how little time either pilot had on type. Continental was a bit a mess in the 1980s, grew and merged with others too quickly, meanwhile having little money and Frank Lorenzo. That might be a factor with unqualified crew slipping thru. That said this was the last mainline Conti...

SFO was much larger. Although UA had acquired Pan Am’s Pacific routes in 1986, it was CEO Stephen Wolf who had designated SFO as UA’s primary trans-pacific gateway. LAX was not established officially as a hub by UA until 1995, but for UA, SFO has historically been its cash cow. For the past 30+ year...

No. No matter how inappropriate the passenger is behaving, we do not use physical force. In the United States, that is considered assault. The captain should’ve called for airport police to come and remove the passengers. As crew members, we do not touch customers.
