British Caledonian used to operate a helicopter service from LGW to LHR in the 80s. I used to get staff subload tickets on it for GBP5. Cheaper than public transport.

I would be pretty amazed if BA pilots flew the plane. Doesn’t make much sense to do typeratings for one route, not to mention I can’t imagine any pilots volunteering to literally fly to the same city four times a month for years. Let’s get serious. The word you’re looking for is CODESHARE. CODESHAR...

Wow - LAX/LHR was often touted as the highest yielding route on the network. Having done AKL-LHR via LAX a couple of times though I can safely say it was a horrible way to travel as transit at LAX is annoying (thanks to immigration queues) compared to going via SIN or HKG. Re: Emirates to Retire A380s by Mid 2030s

I think that one of the issues for EK is that they factored in a good second-hand value for the aircraft as they rolled them over for newer aircraft. That value is expected to be much lower now that that production is ending, and the A380 isn't a good prospect for conversion to a freighter.

The comparison is problematic, but not necessarily invalid. It's true that BA only flies LON - NYC. However, a lot of those flights will be made up of connecting traffic, so they are effectively flying from multiple EU (and non-EU ) countries to NYC. The comparison is how much transatlantic traffic ...
