They simply ran out of real estate. It looks to me that if they had increased the bank angle any further the left wing would have dug in and they'd have cartwheeled. They seem to have done an amazing job with what they had to work with.

Seems it would be better to simply seize it and scrap it in place. That's an awful waste of tax dollars to prep it for a ferry flight to a scrap yard.

Has the increase in passengers self-tagging baggage at a kiosk led to an increase in lost bags? Because I've seen some atrocious bag-tagging by some passengers. The short answer is yes. It is a factor. Not a huge one but one nonetheless. The machines themselves can also contribute their own quirks....

Two VIP 35K's for a country like Algeria seems absurd. Even two 339's for VIP for commonality's sake is still absurd. The 339 is more than adequate for all of their missions, commercial and VIP.

Did the strike start or was there a last minute reprieve? There was no reprieve. The strike is in progress. Be prepared to check your carry-on bag if you are connecting at LHR (at least on BA, I can't speak for other carriers). Passengers destined for London itself are exempt from this requirement....
