What about 789/A359ULR wings & tanks on a plane that is like the A310 length? I think in terms of hours, passengers could probably tolerate being in the air for around 22-23 hours before outright hostility breaks out towards the crew.

I assume if they are running out of hours, there is a limitation to total hours per month, and per year set by the Civil Aviation Department of the UAE or Dubai. I think it is pending on WN MAX-8s. If AA draws down service enough, then WN will be happy to add service they know exists. PHX terminal 4 is a pretty easy transfer airport too, so they would be able to do a steady diet of O&D + Connections.

It's two different factors, the airplane would suck for most airlines given the reasons already stated. EK found a niche role, exposed it, and is profiting from it. The other EY and QR have struggled to fill the same role, especially EY with its rapid contraction. TK fills a slightly different niche...

I always felt like there was not enough room for ME3 + TK to all survive. EK was the most clever and has the strongest foothold--being so close to AUH, EY would have had to offer something spectacular to succeed. Oh well--Abu Dhabi can always rejoin Gulf Air.

We did a helicopter flight to Base Camp a few years ago and all the fixed wing flights to Lukla were cancelled because the smog was so thick. We were flying for about 15-20 minutes before we cleared it. I wonder what the visibility was at the time? I agree that ILS would really help.

I don't think a new airport is needed but a new airspace design above NYC for the traffic flow. Arriving in JFK is ok, but departures are seemingly always delayed. PHX is not equipped to handle scheduled A380 service. The only contingency is effectively on a diversion basis. No taxiways are capable of handling an A380 without impacting parallel taxiways, and I don't believe any gates are equipped for it. It can't taxi on Charlie or Romeo, and if it's on Bravo...
