Southwest compared to Delta, AA, or UA in 2018 isn't even a comparable experience. Southwest offers a way better experience in every way. JetBlue comes the closest IMHO but still isn't southwest.

Hub has a large focus on connections,

focus city primarily is for on O&D. At a DocuSign city there must be enough to O&D for a route to work at a hub it can almost entirely connections

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a record summer at BTV. The airport seems busier , there have been a few more flight delta to JFK, AA to ORD.

I thought that Amtrak is doing quite extensive track investments on New Haven-Springfield. That will probably improve reliability and maybe time on the route. Amtrak is pretty easy to EWR station and can leave closer to most peoples homes then driving to BDL.

News article I read said AA paid for 800 hotels last night, doesn't sound like nearly enough. I would guess the airport hotels are all full , so that limits AAs damage. This doesnt seem to be generating that much media coverage. Yes you can find articles on it, but it's not that bad for their image....

AA couldn't even make ORD-RNO work in prime ski season. Really a shame but I bet it's yields. Better to route them thru DFW or PHX even if it's an extra stop for some. Leisure traffic pretty price sensitive and a different crowd then flies to places like ASE or EGE or JAC , the RNO crowd is much mor...

YOW-YUL is probably mostly connecting traffic. It's a very easy drive and city center to city center might be faster by train or driving these days. AC has connections , and that's probably a vast majority of the seats.

SAN is a O&D city for AS not a connection hub. Anyway there is no way that AS is going want to connect anyone on EWR-SEA-GEG. Look it up on gcmap it's a rediculous amount of miles from the northeast corner down to the southwest corner back up to the northwest corner.

Burlington and Plattsburgh both seem to be doing well. Plattsburgh has all the ULCC flights to Florida/leisure traffic mostly and BTV has the legacies and busienss traffic/cities. No shock here. Even the Middle East carriers cant bleed money forever.

JFK is over-served and yields are just too low to almost all of the cities you would connect to from this flight. With WOW entering India, its only going to get worse

I have no idea how JFK slots work if they can be traded , but I doubt AA would do a trade unless it was for IAD only or ORD.

AA is extremely profitable on JFK-LAX and SFO don't see them encouraging competition. UA can start IAD probably without a big deal as JFK is not slot controlled all day.

In hindsight United should have kept its IAD schedule specifically keeping some times that are slot controlled. That would have allowed it to keep offering service in the future, allowed a way for people to get to JFK who really need it, and allow international connections for Star Alliance airlines...

HQ2 will only have a small boost for the city that gets it. Not even close to enough to support a hub. Most of the increase will be at the beginning setup , it won't last. It's not really a good location geographically.

It's very high concentration of leisure travel mostly booked farther ahead, ie yields are low

Southwest practically has a mini hub there already.
