I find the 'scarf tied around the neck' look really dated and it's interesting that it persists in the US. I sometimes see this trend in other parts of the world but it seems to be a real hallmark of American aviation style.

I'm on a BA flight in Philadelphia that can't leave for Heathrow due to closure of the runways there. Apparently runway and taxiway lighting system is down. Does anyone have any further information? BA297, which took a significant number of passengers from AA99, left 45mins later than scheduled (16:05 became 16:48) and intense secondary screening at the gate didn't help matters either.

My first was in early 1987. TWA from London to Boston. I believe this was an L1011 and think we flew from Gatwick (as opposed to Heathrow). Does anyone have an old route map to confirm?

I was sitting next to a pilot on a Continental flight the other day (he was returning home) and as I turned my phone off, he made the comment that he never remembers to turn his off and that he inevitably hears automatically shutting down when the battery runs out. I found that to be highly amusing.

I think that in the US, only 15% of the population has a passport. This is a statistic we widely use in international education.

I think that the German population is one of the most mobile when it comes to travel, though the Brits and French are pretty close behind.

For most international flights, a minimum of 1.5 hours in the US, 2.5 hours at LHR.

For US domestic flights (with Continental Elite and no luggage), half an hour.
Other US domestic flights, about an hour.

It may not be the brand new livery that many people were expecting, but I think it is an incredibly sophisticated refinement. Bravo Air Canada.

The new cabin interior, uniforms, and livery make for a very attractive overall package - I cannot wait to see it all come together.
