How about the 747-400Ds which were operated in Japan. they wouldn't have the legs to operate standard 747 legs, hence I doubt they ever went anywhere near JFK.

Sometimes, but not always. Look at airlines like Transaero and Alitalia (I believe), lots of those aircraft are registered in Ireland and have EI- prefixes.

UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Czech Rep., Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, UAE, Oman and the Maldives.
