The Chinese Communist Party would freak out. POOF there would go all of the routes that China Airlines operates to the mainland, over 30 destinations (some as Mandarin Airlines). I don't know how profitable those routes are, but it seems inevitable that China Airlines would take some sort of hit.

Well that isn't good news. There is no practical way to get to JFK from New Jersey unless you want to sit for hours and hours in traffic. Norwegian's flights that are moving from EWR to JFK both leave around midnight. Not sure where you're coming from in Jersey, but it's rare to hit traffic at 9pm ...
