I just had the chance to fly on Korean Air on December 26th and again on the 11th of January. On Dec. 26th, I flew from Chicago to Seoul-Incheon on KE 38 to visit my girlfriend. I have never flown on an Asian Airline before, but wow! The service was excellent. I am starting this thread for all of us A.netters to share our wonderful experiences on Korean Air (´ëÇÑ Ç×°ø in romantic letters: Taehan Hanggong if you want to see it, change the language coding to Korean so it shows up.) I am adding a picture of one of the meals offered on that flight, the second meal I wasnt able to photograh, because my battery died. I am also adding many pics while enroute and on the approach to Seoul-Incheon Airport. While waiting to board, I saw the crew for the flight come to the gate. They had 3 Captains, 3 FO's, 3 Flight Engineers, 4 Pursers, and about 30 flight attendants that all were drop dead gorgeous. I have never seen a crew that large for the 747-400. When I flew LH from JFK-FRA, there was only one Captain, one FO, and one Flight Engineer, 2 Pursers, and like only 20 or 25 flight attendants, but that flght was only for 7 hours and 30 minutes. The flight from Chicago to Seoul was 16 hours and 10 minutes.
Chicago-O'hare Check-In Counter on Dec. 26th at 8:30 AM waiting to Check-In in the International Terminal (Term. 5):
Waiting at Gate M7:
Taxiing to Runway 32 Left in seat 40A:
Sitting on the runway about to take off, showing 7,025 miles to Destination!!!! :
Bimbimbap being served about 2 hours into the flight and about 14 hours left to Korea:
Over Northern Canada about 4 hours and 30 minutes into the flight and about 11 hours and 30 minutes left to Korea as the sun is beginning to set as we fly further and further north :
Crossing the International Date line about 9 hours into the flight and still about 7 hours left still to Korea!!!
Entering Russian Airspace after about 10 hours of flying and about 6 hours left to Korea:
Getting closer to the Korean Peninsula as we pass directly over Harbin, Peoples Republic of China about 12 hours 30 minutes into the flight with about 3 hours and 30 minutes left in route. Right after that was taken, the changed course and flew towards Dalian and the direction of Beijing, in order to fly around North Korea. :
Just North of Dalian as they slowly start to turn a little bit southeast towards the Republic of Korea:
Over Dalian, People's Republic of China:
Turning over the very cloudy Yellow Sea as we keep making small corrections to avoid entering North Korean Airspace:
Entering the Republic of Korea's Airspace as we pass by an Island belonging to the Republic of Korea in the Yellow Sea about 15 hours and 30 minutes into the flight and about only 40 minutes from landing:
Inside the Aircraft before we were landing:
Turning for ILS approach to Runway 33 Right at only about only 5,000 feet or less and about 27 miles from the Airport:
RETURN FLIGHT
Waiting to Board KE 037 to Chicago at gate 14 in the Incheon Airport on January 11th Korean time at around 10:45 am. The bording time was at 11:30 am and Departure around 12:00 pm.:
My bording pass:
First meal about 2 hours into the flight and about 12 hours and 30 minutes left:
About a hour before we were served the second meal, we were given a small slice of Pizza, which was a good snack and it tasted really good!
Here is the second meal about 8 hours and 30 minutes into the flight and about 6 hours 30 mintues left. There was also a Soybean Paste soup that was served along with this, which was really good. :
We landed in Chicago at 9:15 am Central time or 12:15 am Korean time. In both directions, they constant served beverages. When you press the flight attendant call button, a flight attendant wound show up almost instantly and if it took long for them to get to you they would always be very apologetic. I highly recommend Korean Air for any and all of your travels to Asia, even though it sometimes might be higher than an American Airline to fly to Asia. After all, you get what you pay for. My ticket cost me $1,535 Rochester to Chicago on American then onto Korean Air whereas Northwest would have cost about $1,000 Minneapolis to Seoul with a connection in Japan. I highly recommend flying on Korean Air because going direct makes it much easier and its easier on you for Jet lag because you don't have as many stops or have to wait about 3 hours in Japan for a connection like on Northwest or United.
Korean Air (´ëÇÑ Ç×°ø in romantic letters: Taehan Hanggong if you want to see it, change the language coding to Korean so it shows up.) all the way.
I will be flying on Korean Air again on July 25th on KE 906 from Frankfurt to Seoul. I am doing a study abroad in Germany from March to beginning of July. Then on July 25th, I will then fly back to Korea again on Korean Air because this fall I will be studying at my girlfriend's University from the end of August to the beginning of January 2008. I will post a trip report for that flight as well. Please enjoy this trip report and feel free to send me an e-mail as to how you thought the quality of this report was, as this was my very first trip report that I have posted.

Good report and pictures! When I passed through ORD a few times last year, I always saw a Korean Air 747-400 there as well. Sounds like you had some nice flights.

Great Report. Had the pleasure myself to travel KE from FRA via ICN to BNE in Business Class. Fully agree with you that this is a great airline offering excellent service at a reasonable price compared to other Asian carriers. ICN is a great airport to spend time and the transit hotel is awesome.
The plane was 100 % full. The layout was the plan B on Korean Air's website.
Economy- 262
Prestige- 61
First- 12
The IFE.. 40 videos, 10 short subject films, including some segments of us and korean sitcoms, and news channels KBS and CNN International. the Korean channel had english subrtitles. Also there were several choices of single player and multiplayer video games. There was also a video on how the Customs and Immigration functions in the Incheon Airport and which steps you must take from leaving the Plane until your out in the greeting hall or into the waiting area for the Public Transport. On the flight over, I had the wonderful chance to use the Inflight Internet, which is now defunct, thanks to Boeing ! That really made the 16 hours fly by fast, plus Seat Power Ports so my laptop didnt die on me.
Horrible, nothing but. It tasted wonderful. The second meal picture was a slice of Salmon with korean pepper sauce on it, some noodles, green beans, and above the salmon, there was some stir-fry with beef.

Next time, try Asiana. It's the other Korean international airline. A bit smaller but a member of Star Alliance and the service is wonderful. It does bother me however, how robotic the women flight attendants are on most Asian airlines. And it's sad that they have to retire once they hit about 30 years old.

This characteristic is normally confined to the junior crew when they have a strict set of rules to follow. This is to ensure consistency in the service levels rendered. Which is why they carry themselves to a level sometimes akin to military precision.
As the level of seniority goes up, the crew would be more able to balance that "military precision" with a bit of humanity thrown in.
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

My Korean friends say it as "Daehun Hangoong". Hangoong means Korean and Daehun is Air?
The pictures are very nice and the report is full of detail. I think you should submit the meal pics to www.airlinemeals.net . What is "morning calm" checkin?
