As i promised, here's a Trip report about DL110 today ATL-LAX. The first revenue flight of new DL 777-200LR.
Straight to the point...
I arrive at ATL airport by 7:25 and as i made my check-in thru the Internet i was ready for the 15-20 minutes lines for TSA screening.
My reservation was made sometime ago on seat 14D, just the last window seat of the second cabin of Business Elite and i'm very impressed with the new seats !
The flight was supposed to depart on time, and in fact it departs with a minor delay
Gate assigned was E10, which is good as it's closer to the E terminal connector station.
As soon as i reach the gate area, i managed to take some pics from the new bird, even with the snow falling in ATL !
Boarding begin closer to 7:55 with the invitation of all customers seated on Zone 1 (which includes myself). Good as i could also manage to take some photos of the virtually empty coach class while i get familiarized with the new seats.
What to say, the plane is fantastic ! Seats are very comfortable, it's full flat, the new suites are very beautiful. The general impression from all other passengers i talked about, were the better even possible. Okay, it's a domestic flight where people are not flying with prime label foreign airlines, but at least the new 777LR can put DL in conditions to compete against some of them.
During the time the other Zones are being called for boarding i tried to visit the cockpit, and find out a very enthusiastic and friendly staff (not only on Flight Deck, but on the entire plane). The Captain and the Pilot took a long time receiving several people on the cabin, explaining procedures as well as taking pictures of the cabin.
At least i can say i one day seat on the cabin of a 77L !
Boarding process continues and the snow continues to fall...
As well as people continue to board..
Well, lets talk about the seat..
Its very comfortable, and it's easy !
Top View
Something very useful will be the guide provided by DL to show how to use the new seats, in just one page (with reverse) you will find all information you need to take advantage of the new resources.
And you will find the same button on the seat...
Reading light...
Comfortable ?
PTV is also another improvement. Not as big as i expect, but for sure better than the one used nowadays on BE, and it's widescreen !
Coach class is also bigger than usual
The system works with AVOD, and several movies (far more than the old system), music, etc. It's interesting !
Something i didn't tried is the interface with USB connector. Something to remind, it shows now several languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese... so the plane will be always ready for any destination!
Something very cool... the pause now advised that it's because of an announcement!
The last seat has some advantages, and the main one is the extra space to keep your belongs closer to you during the flight. A nice spot for a notebook or a cell phone !
Back to the flight, we departed ATL a little delayed as DL staff tried to accommodate the more passengers they could. The plane probably leave the gate full (for sure on BE cabin)
Push back...
And we departed, in an impressive and "silent" climbing, even with the bad weather.
Service for BE was very good and i tried to see how the tray table performs.
And the food !
During the flight i take some interesting photos from the seat:
Closer to LAX (landing)...
And some more pics from the coach
During the flight, several announcements has been made informing that it's a new aircraft, the capabilities of the 77L as well as the fact its the first revenue flight. The Captain also grant a warm welcome to Airliners members on board !
Interesting also in the end they comment the history of " Spirit of Delta " and obtained some applause !
Have to say, the crew was just perfect !!!! Including the 4 trainees that for sure will remember all of us. In the end, we managed to take pics with the crew.
Crew
And the staff that always help to get everything on time at LAX:
In general words, the plane is amazing and puts DL into a better competitive position for the lucrative long haul market. They can even put a larger PTV on BE, but compared to the 763's it's a big improvement ! Hope DL would be able even to buy more 77L's or even 772ER's with this new seats. I can say that looking for South America, DL can even obtain higher yields with this kind of equipment.
Congratulations for the entire staff, very helpful, friendly, always smiling and taking care of all of us. A fantastic flight, without any doubt.

A very wonderful report. I didn't think the 772LR would be flying so soon but looks like I'm pleasantly proven wrong. I'll definitely have to try to get onto this beautiful plane. Your pictures and writing was done very well, keep up the good work.

Quoting Milesaddict (Reply 2): Do you know if DL will spread them on the 767 ?
not the same seats look on Delta.com for the new 767 lie-flats
but all 77Es and 77Ls will get these seats talk is there is a 77E over in TechOps that is getting them and getting painted(N864DA ship 7005) also N863DA ship 7004 is going to get painted soon
(They were/are doing work on TOC-III which should be done soon and 7004 will get paint as soon as its done)

Thank you so much LipeGIG! Great report, and great meeting you onboard!
What an amazing flight, and meeting the other A-netters was just great!
I hope we can catch up again and swap pictures -- I have already contacted DL management and offered my pics with Captain Campbell and all the staff for their internal Web site .

I'm glad to see a report on the 777LR. Question on the BE seats. The angle they are facing...isn't it difficult to look out the windows?
What routes does DL plan to use this airplane on?

It's difficult, but not impossible. It certainly wouldn't keep me from sitting in one of those seats again! For now, DL is going to rotate the 77L through several of the 777 routes. At the end of the month when the 2nd one arrives, it goes to BOM exclusively (from JFK, I think). ATL-PVD-ATL will get a 77L towards the end of the year, I understand.

Very Nice Report Lipe. The newest Delta' 777s looks great (specially in the new livery), although i don't like the new configuration of the Business Elite Cabin.

Looks very claustrphobic. The whole interior looks almost identical to Air Canada's.
Personally, I prefer the old type of larger, lounge seats up front, but I guess for a business traveller alone, the cubicle is better.
Thank You for the great TR.
Cheers,
Carl
