I would like to know if scanners are allowed on a carry on bag. I am traveling CLE-EWR-ATH
next month and would like to bring my air scanner along. It fits in the palm of my hand and has an earpiece. if anyone knows please advise?

I would be very careful if I were you - not at the US end, there's no problem doing this at all, but in Greece the legal situation regarding airband scanners is a bit of a grey area. This is the country after all where the group of plane spotters were jailed several years ago (not exactly for having airband radios but it still is taking a risk).

Note that this is no different whether it is checked in or in your carry-on. Maybe someone from Greece can confirm.

Out there in the US I guess using an Airband radio wont be much of a problem but in here in India they sure won’t let you use it. But then since yours is a smaller one which fits in your palm may be just may be they wouldn’t notice it. Anyway just try getting as much expert opinions from here before leave. Good Luck

George

CO bans the use of any device that transmits or receive a signal during flight. This regulation prohibits you from using it on board except for at the gate when the door is open.
