It had no performance problems at La Paz Bolivia, the airport elevation is 13,300 ft. In non airline service it gets to and cruises at 36,000 ft with no problem. High altitude operation is not a problem.

If I were mean, I would say: Better high up than at sea level like in CPH  Wink

It actually performs very well out of the high altitude airports. As long as it isn't exceptionally warm, the plane is able to fly with little to no weight restrictions out of some pretty challenging airports. Lynx will be operating the Q400 into and out of ASE starting on the 26th and I haven't heard of much of any restrictions into and out of there for it. If anything, it will definitely perform better than the CRJ's flying in there right now.

What kind of info are you looking for?

Checko,

Know things are pretty crazy out there right now, give me an email, PM or a call or something if you can. I'm sure you heard about RAH today, just want to make sure things are going well for you.

Hi Everyone! Thank you for the replys. I was specifically referring to here @ LAS, airport elevation 2279 ft. and temperatures....well....you know......hot enough to melt your shoes when walking on the ramp in the summer.

Thanks for any additional information!!!

SA Express use Q400s out of JNB which is at 5,557ft as well as BFN (elevation 4,450ft, runways 8,395ft and 7,202ft) and as far as I know there are no restrictions.

Out of DEN, L4 has no problems and wouldn't unless its an exceptionally warm day. The long runways available cancel out most hot and high issues there.

In the mountains, under normal ops the Q400 has some pretty good performance. Subtract an engine and things get a bit hairy, like anywhere else, but the aircraft can get itself out of some pretty tight situations (ASE) even single engine in the low 60K's unless its very warm. My guess is that at 80F+ is where seat blocking might start happening, but we are talking one or two seats.

At LAS and 2,279ft, it might be a little warm inside, but the plane will do it with no problem. It might see some restrictions on the hottest days (100F+), but still nothing too crazy.

She's gotten fancier, but the Q400 is still a low-rider Dash 8 at heart.
