Quoting Flight152 (Reply 3): Yeah, there is damage, what's your point?
Perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions, but I think the point is that a 747 is badly damaged and the individual who posted the link was merely announcing some interesting and newsworthy content to this site. As disappointing as it may be to see this kind of damage to a bird, I for one appreciate the chance to see it.

Although the elevators are pretty fragile, and it doesn't take much of a hit on the trailing edge to cause major damage, I 'd be interested to know if there was any damage to the stab Jackscrew assy? After all, the elev/stab assy is only supported by the 2 brgs and the J/S in front, and if you back into something on one side, there's a good chance for side-load damage.

Any structure is 'fragile' when its subjected to forces beyond that of which the airplane was designed and tested for. Contact with a fixed object from behind the elevator certainly qualifies as 'not designed for'. Could designers build aircraft to be stronger? Sure, but at the expense of weight....you'd be much better off making sure that people don't drive airplanes into big pieces of equipment though.
Not I'm not sure I'm 16 because I'm 18. My comment was a joke. If cracking any kind of joke is a serious offence and makes anyone seem like a kid or a baby or whatever then what's the point in being alive, bore?
