There is a hole in it. But it does not look like a landing light, and I'm pretty sure that it is not the nuzzle of a machine gun.
If anyone of you knows what the hole is for I would be pleased to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

I've seen that nose before. Not sure but it might be the intake for the Janitrol or similar combustion heater system. (Google Rick Nelson)
That also appears to be a "super three." Check out the landing gear doors. Those might also be R-2000 engines. Any of you old round-engine guys know for sure?

Sorry, no can do, Hawk21M, these were all left overseas many years ago, where I was flying these machines.
Southwind was the preferred heater installation, altho Stewart-Warner models worked just as well.
These heaters were quite effective, and routed most of the heated air to the cockpit, as nearly all of these aircraft were freighters....in civil operation.

Thanks a lot for the info fellow A.netters
Based on your replies I have done a little search and found 2 more DC-3 with the same inlet: # 1 & #2
BTW: For those of you who read this, I found a little DC-3 JATO footage (!) during my search. Look on Douglas Aircraft - C-47 / R4D / C-117 - Skytrain / Dakota / Gooney Bird. The link is half way down the page.
I had a little trouble viewing it when I tried with Windows Media Player, but with QuickTime Player I had no problems.

Hi JHSfan, Buzz here. Many DC-3's have a cabin vent air inlet there, N136PB /NC18121 does. When i started reading the EAL manuals on that DC-3 when it mentioned a "nose valve".
The nose valve shuts off the ram air... and 36PB had a combustion heater installed... we removed it.
Notice that that DC-3 has the Wright Engine speed cowls and gear doors, and smooth nose. Somebody wants to go faster.
g'day
